Battlefield Vietnam
Battlefield Vietnam does a good job of keeping the BF1942 game-play alive, while sporting some excellent graphics and sound. One thing it lacks however, are any major changes from that to set itself apart.
Master the weapons of jungle warfare including pongee sticks and booby traps.
Go to war as a Viet Cong, Green Beret, or other soldier types, each with multiple character skins.
Wage war online from dark jungles to villages on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
Command Vietnam-era vehicles, the F-4 Phantom, airlift vehicles in transport helicopters, and more.
Head into battle with a generation-defining soundtrack, songs by CCR, Jefferson Airplane, and more.
Guide Review - Battlefield: Vietnam Review
The highly anticipated Battlefield Vietnam has finally been released, with that of course the comparisons between Battlefield 1942 begin and are debated.
The graphics and character animation for Battlefield Vietnam are very good. The level of scenery detail in each of the maps adds a great element for me. The sound and music is on par, if not better than any game I've played. Famous classic rock tracks from the 1960s and Vietnam War era are featured on the game's soundtrack.
Battlefield Vietnam also features a substantial amount of vehicles and weapons to choose from. Character kits vary(just a little) depending on the map so if you're use to playing one type make sure it's on the map you're playing before jumping into the fray.
The game's single player mode is not worth mentioning, AI is terrible and story just isn't fun. The multiplayer capability, however, is excellent and the major selling point of the Battlefield games. One pet peeve of mine, which I wish was addressed, is spawn camping. Allowing players to camp out by spawn locations, killing newly spawned soldiers before they get much of a change to look around.
Battlefield Vietnam doesn't set itself apart greatly from Battlefield 1942, but that's not a bad thing. It does so differentiate itself from some of the Vietnam Era BF1942 mods that have been released.
Overall Battlefield Vietnam provides an entertaining follow up to Battlefield 1942 with a few new features but same proven game format.
